Located on the shores of the beautiful Lake Tekapo, the Church of the Good Shepherd is nestled amongst the natural beauty of the region. Built in 1935, the church was constructed on the premise that nothing was to be disturbed, including the rocks that fell in line with the wall. Additionally, the stones used to build the walls were gathered from within a five mile radius of the site.
The church is still standing strong today and is still open to the public for regular masses. The picture of the church on the shore of the lake is an iconic image of the Mackenzie region and is often photographed by visitors to the region.
